Sweet Baby Dreams (detail) - made from recycled sweaters and embellished with vintage buttons.
SMALL ARGYLE TABLE RUG: This sweet little table rug is made from an argyle sweater which I turned into thick wool felt through a process of repeated washings in hot soapy water. I hand-quilted the piece in wool threads of various colors, then embellished it with vintage buttons and an extravagantly stitched sawtooth border; approximately 16” x 13”.
PIECES OF DREAMS #7 (2004). Recycled wool sweaters, vintage buttons, wool tapestry thread, 6.5” x 6.5”.
COMFORT (2008): Made from recycled textiles, this variation on a penny rug offers multiple stacked squares instead of circles. The squares are arranged in the manner of a nine-patch quilt pattern. Materials used in making this piece are: wool tweed, overdyed wool, vintage silk, discharged recycled linen, antique French ribbon, metallic thread, linen and silk thread, pearl and glass beads; 5.5” x 5.5”.
ANTIQUE CUT STEEL BUTTON BROOCH: A fun brooch made using an antique cut steel button for the focal point and then building from there using a bit of felted wool (from a recycled sweater) and some metallic ribbon and metallic thread. The back is nicely finished with another piece of felted wool. All hand-stitched; 1.5” x 1.5”.
Turquoise & Purple Star, made from recycled sweaters with vintage mother-of-pearl button.
